Most of my high school years were spent being fairly overweight. It wasn't until I was in my 30's that I
really stepped foot inside a gym
. I had a few trainers and did what they told me and managed to gain
some muscle, but my body fat was pretty high. I didn't learn why I was doing what I was doing, or talk much
about nutrition with any of them. I continued to be pretty shy about my body.  I don't think I'd taken my shirt off
in public since I was, maybe, twelve.

I met Greg when i attended a lecture he gave on working out and eating properly and he was nice enough to
stay afterwards and answer a lot of questions people had. I started working with Greg two weeks after that
lecture.

Cut to about twelve weeks later and I had learned so much about working out properly and eating to support
my fitness goals. Greg taught me why I was doing things and how everything (cardio, nutrition and weight
training) worked together. For me, the best part wasn't even so much the physical results, but the emotional
ones. I really felt comfortable with my body and at home in my skin for the first time ever.

"I have come to realize that even in middle age, one can discover that they love working out; I have even
become an inspiration to other woman and mothers my age.  It took me many years and many roads to find
Greg Rothman.
He has helped me to realize that one can have tremendous pride in one's body
and to find actual pleasure in the process
.  Now, when I walk in the street, I walk with my back straight
and my head in the air.  Whether I am sad, insecure or just content, I walk with a sense of pride and dignity.

I look forward to my sessions as I used to towards an ice cream sundae; luckily Greg is guilt free!"

I have always hated the idea of exercise and going to the gym, but started to learn taekwondo in 2001 and became overly dedicated, going four or
five times a week.
Two years of this generated all sorts of muscular imbalances and I ended up damaging my meniscus, requiring
two surgeries in the space of six months
.  The surgeon said that I needed to strengthen the muscles that support the knee to the point where
they had sufficient headroom to handle the stress, so I came to Greg with a specific mission – strengthen those muscles so I could go back to
taekwondo and get my black belt.  Greg designed a program to not only do that but also correct my postural imbalances and create a better
distribution of muscle mass. I went back to taekwondo only after Greg decided that I was ready, and we increased the pace all the way to the black
belt exam.  In the process, I got so much more than I asked for!  I developed an understanding of correct form, of how free weights are functional
while muscle-isolating machines are not, of how to build strength versus resistance, of how to spread meals better throughout the day, of how to
cycle through different exercise routines when they plateau.  I also developed a repertoire of exercises that address my postural and other needs.
Greg pushed me hard, but in a way that was always fun and made me feel like the gain was worth the strain.
Even though we achieved our
objective, I continue to come because our weekly session motivates me to continue to learn and develop
.

REHABILITATION.

When I began training with Greg more than five years ago, I was injury-prone; active, without really being in shape; and, because I wasn't overweight,
intentionally oblivious to the effects of diet and nutrition on my body.  With Greg's help, and a little added discipline, I was able to change these
three factors that prevented me from being as fit and healthy as I wanted to be.   Greg coached me through my recovery from major knee surgery,
helped me stay in shape through my pregnancy (so much so that my physician remarked that my delivery was considerably easier than many because
of my fitness level), and kept me enthusiastic about working out through many cold and rainy New York days.  Greg was able to teach me about the
importance of good form, not what it looks like, but how it actually feels.  With imagery, commentary, and a few taps on my back or shoulders, Greg
made sure I learned which muscles should work and when.  Our workouts became more productive, and, with his encouragement, when I began to
think about form outside of the gym, riding my bike or climbing stairs or picking up my baby, then my health AND fitness really improved.

I am the first to admit I was addicted to cardio!  I would spend probably close to 2hrs/day, 6 days a week
in the gym.  Though I’d always lifted weights, it was very automatic and secondary to killing myself in cardio
classes (Spinning, boxing, boot camps…you name it I did it! Often 2 back-to-back.).  Despite all the gym time I’d
logged,
I really wasn’t happy with the way I looked.  Then I came to work for Greg this summer and
reluctantly tried his training program.  “Just trust me” he said.  “Are you happy with what you’re doing now”?
Well, no.  So I trusted him.  I cut my cardio WAYYYYYY back- terrifyingly so in my opinion! – and really focused
on lifting.   The cardio I did do was very intense interval training, for much less than half the time of my normal
routine.   We also addressed my nutrition.  I’d manipulated my diet for years based on the latest diet craze,
eliminating certain types of foods and alcohol completely.  Greg got me on the right track and I’m less rigid
and less hungry than I’ve ever been in my life.  In addition to having so much more time on my hands outside
of the gym, I’m becoming reacquainted with items in my wardrobe I haven’t worn in years.
Despite
drastically reducing my gym time, I’ve never been in better shape
and am not tied to a gym's group
fitness schedule.  I highly recommend Greg’s training programs to anyone looking to find both balance and a
better body!!
